Beef Central expands as respected rural broadcaster joins team

Beef Central 04/07/2025

BEEF Central is excited to announce that our team of professional independent journalists and experts delivering quality original news and market insights for Australia’s beef cattle industry is expanding with the appointment of a new journalist.

Lydia Burton has joined our editorial ranks, bringing extensive rural reporting experience and broadcasting expertise to the Beef Central team.

Lydia has a deep connection to rural Australia, having grown up on her family’s beef cattle property on the Darling Downs and later in western Queensland.

Since beginning her journalism career in 2013 as a Rural Reporter with the ABC in Longreach, she has gone on to become one of the most recognised voices in rural reporting, including roles as the Northern Territory Country Hour presenter and Executive Producer.

Lydia has reported across radio, television and online platforms, including the ABC’s flagship rural affairs program Landline, and has filed stories from across Australia and internationally from countries such as Indonesia, the United States and across Europe.

In 2018 Lydia was one of 10 young agricultural journalists from 43 countries chosen by an international jury as an International Federation of Agricultural Journalists/Alltech Young Leader in Agricultural Journalism, for outstanding achievement in reporting and demonstrating excellent potential as a leader of the future.

Beef Central is excited to inform readers that Lydia will also be joining fellow Beef Central journalist and former ABC rural reporter Eric Barker to further strengthen our news offering with the launch of a new podcast, specifically aimed at keeping cattle producers and others in the beef industry informed and up to date in an easy-to-follow,  convenient way – stay tuned for more details very soon!

Launched in May 2011, Beef Central is a premium free-access digital news site created by independent journalists Jon Condon and James Nason to provide timely, relevant and accurate news and market insights to Australian beef cattle producers and other industry stakeholders throughout the beef supply chain.

Beef Central’s mission to provide readers with informed and reliable journalism without placing barriers in the way of industry stakeholders being able to access important industry news and information such as through paywalls or subscription fees. This is made possible through our large, dedicated national Australian cattle industry readership and the strong ongoing support of advertisers.

Beef Central’s readership continues to expand, now with 200,000 unique active users per month visiting our site, along with tens of thousands of daily readers via our daily news email and social media channels.
