Webinar: Replacement sire selection in 2020

Beef Central, 14/08/2020

BEEF Central’s genetics editor Alastair Rayner will be guest presenter in upcoming webinars on ‘Sire Selection in 2020, in a climate of restriction’.

Hosted by AuctionsPlus, the webinars will be followed by the opportunity for a series of 30 minute ‘one-on-one’ private consultations with Mr Rayner on genetics and bull selection.

The upcoming spring selling season will present both challenges and opportunities for bull buyers, he says. Travel restrictions means buyers will need to rely on different skills and analytics to determine the best genetics to suit their operation. More than ever, studs are opening up their sales to the country through online bidding, allowing buyers access to an unprecedented pool of bulls.

Mr Rayner is the principal of RaynerAg, an agicultural advisory service based in NSW.  He regularly attends bull sales to support client purchases and undertakes pre-sale selections and classifications.

During the webinar he will share his expertise in selection of replacement stud and herd bulls where an inspection is not possible, using objective descriptions, breeding values, photos and videos, and tips on talking to stud operators about individual needs.

The webinars will be repeated over three days – next Monday and Tuesday 17 and 18 August, and again on Monday, 24 August. Each will start at 9.30am. Click here to register.

Private consultations to discuss genetics and bull selection will take place from 10.30am the same day following each webinar. They can be booked separately (click here).

Would it be possible to access Alister Rayner’s tips on youtube or print for those unable to log in?

Thanks for your comment Gil. We will add a link to the recorded version of the webinar to this item, once the third one is completed. Provided there is not too much overlap with content published in his earlier Beef Central genetics columns, we may also put together an article from the content. Editor
