A 24-month-old grey Brahman bull broke an 11-year-old Australian all breeds price record at the NCC (Nobbs Cattle Company) Brahmans’ on-property bull sale at Inverrio, Duaringa, Qld, earlier today.

Rodger and Lorena Jefferis from Elrose Brahman Stud at Cloncurry, Qld, paid $325,000 to secure Lot 37 NCC Justified, by Carinya Tony out of the JDH Elmo daughter, NCC Jardena 2290 (IVF).

The underbidders were Helen and Les Donald, El-Ja Brahman Stud, Theodore, Qld.

The previous all breeds record was paid for another Brahman bull, a $300,000 Lancefield bull, in 2006.

The NCC sale also easily set a new all-breeds record average price for any seedstock sale in Australia, when 76 bulls averaged $26,915, and 28 registered heifers averaged $15,159. Together with two semen packages averaging $5500, the sale grossed an incredible $2.48 million. After the first 41 lots, the bulls were averaging about $32,000.

The Jefferis’s were immediately approached after the sale about semen sales, but while plans are already afoot for semen collection, they will not make his genetics available to other breeders, in the short-term, at least.

Second top at the NCC sale at $120,000 went to Own and Lee Scott, Ruan, Clermont, who also bought the top priced bull at the recent Rockhampton Brahman Week sale.

Today’s records for NCC continue a prolific year of new stud bull and female sale records, with at least 10 breed records set so far in 2017 according to Beef Central’s definitive breed price record database (click here to view).

The NCC Brahmans catalogue was prescient in its description of Justified, singling him out as a “young sire going places”. It described him as having “an eye catching combination of breed style, sire appeal, extra length, bone and muscle stand out a mile. You’ll admire his balance of extraordinary Brahman breed and beef industry qualities, and his lovely laid-back temperament.”

Marketing agent Ken McCaffrey described today’s NCC fixture as “taking seedstock industry results to another level.”

“There was an enormous crowd, and many of them had bid cards,” he said.

“Recent rain across large parts of Queensland certainly helped, but the underpinning factor was sheer industry confidence,” Mr McCaffrey said.

“We were still selling bulls for $25,000 and $30,000 deep into the catalogue.”

While last year’s NCC October sale was regarded as a ‘cracker’, averaging about $15,500 for bulls, it pales into insignificance compared with today’s historic result.
