The Roma Saleyards will conduct a drought relief store sale at the Roma Saleyards on Tuesday September 4, the Maranoa Regional Council announced this week.

The centre  will offer a 50pc reduction on live weight and open auction selling fees for each head of cattle sold at the drought relief sale.

Maranoa Regional Council Portfolio Chair for Roma Saleyards, councillor Peter Flynn, said with the Maranoa region included in the 57.4 percent of Queensland currently drought declared.

Cr Flynn said the initiative was a way for Maranoa Regional Council and the Roma Saleyards to support to producers during tough times, with the halving of fees to offer some financial relief for producers being forced to reduce their herds.

The current selling cost per head at the Roma Saleyards for liveweight cattle is $11.60 inc GST and $10.40 inc GST for cows and calves sold as a unit.

For this special Drought Relief Store Sale, the selling cost per head will be $5.80 inc GST for liveweight cattle and $5.20 inc GST for cows and calves sold as a unit.
