JBS claims Brisbane’s top branded-beef competition

Jon Condon, 06/06/2014

swift-premium-logoSome of Australia’s best-known beef brands went head-to-head in Brisbane Show’s annual branded beef competition, results for which were announced just minutes ago.

Brisbane’s champion branded beef of show award this year went to Swift Premium, for a grassfed entry produced by JBS Australia.

It is the second year in a row that a grassfed entry has been judged grand champion, with an entry from Wingham Beef Exports’ Manning Valley Naturally brand winning last year’s title.

Close to 30 entries were received this year from branded beef supply chains in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. A point worth noting was the expansion of entries seen in the MSA-graded grassfed class, despite the difficult seasonal conditions across Eastern Australia in the past 18 months.

Class winners and placegetters included:

Grassfed, MSA-graded class: Gold – Swift Premium, JBS Australia; Silver – The Trinity, Bindaree Beef; Bronze – Manning Valley Naturally, Wingham Beef Exports.

Grainfed, MSA-graded class: Gold – The Chairman, Bindaree Beef; Silver – Beef City Platinum, JBS Australia; Bronze – Bindaree Vintage, Bindaree Beef.

Wagyu marbling score 6+ class: Gold – Darling Downs Wagyu (Gold), AAco; Silver – Stockyard Black, Stockyard Beef; Bronze – Tajima, Andrews Meat Industries.

Open class: Gold – Mayfield, Bindaree Beef; Silver – Cape Byron Angus, Bindaree Beef; Bronze: JBS Royal, JBS Australia.
