Bigger is better, in Hungry Jack’s new burger offer

Beef Central, 28/07/2020

NATIONAL burger chain Hungry Jack’s has gone down the ‘bigger is better’ route with two new beef burger options launched today.

Hungry Jack’s new Big Jack and Mega Jack offerings were launched this morning in 400 stores across Australia, as a limited time offer. The campaign is exclusive to Australia at this stage, and is not being seen in the equivalent Burger King stores overseas.

Hungry Jack’s new Mega Jack, measuring almost 13cm across, includes about 230 grams of Aussie beef

“The long-awaited and much-anticipated Big Jack makes its debut at all Hungry Jack’s restaurants from today and seriously, it is the flame grilled flavour that makes it special,” the company says in a statement.

The new Big Jack contains two flamed-grilled beef patties, each about 10cm wide, while the even larger Mega Jack is 25pc larger still, containing half a pound (about 230 grams) of Aussie beef. The Mega Jack’s two patties are each 13cm across, requiring a special bun.

“It will definitely take two hands to handle the Mega Jack,” the company said.

McDonald’s equivalent in the ‘mega burger’ stakes, the Double Quarter Pounder, also contains half a pound (about 230g) of beef.

“We don’t add anything to our 100pc Aussie beef except the delicious BBQ smoky taste you get from flame grilling.  It’s the unique flavour you just can’t get from the American style of frying in a flat press,” Hungry Jack’s chief marketing officer Scott Baird said, in a clear reference to major competitor, McDonald’s.

Big Jack and Mega Jack come with fresh lettuce and fresh onions, pickles and cheese added to the two flame-grilled beef patties and special Big Jack sauce which are held together top, middle and bottom by a toasted bun covered in sesame seeds.

The new Big Jack and Mega Jack burgers are available at all Hungry Jack’s restaurants for a limited time and can be ordered online for pick-up or delivery through the Hungry Jack’s App, Menulog or Uber Eats.

The Big Jack burger retails for around $7. No price was offered for the Mega Jack.

Asked by Beef Central if it was intentional that the name ‘Big Jack’ was remarkably similar to ‘Big Mac’, the company said the name was chosen “Because it’s big, and part of Hungry Jacks… easy name.”

Disgusting. Slapped together, drowned in sauce so that it dripped it’s contents everywhere. If there was supposed to have cheese I didn’t find it but then again it probably got lost in all that sauce. Never again.
