Vale Tage (Ted) Brorsen

Jon Condon, 05/05/2015

An era in southern Australia’s red meat processing sector ended on Thursday last week with the passing of industry identity and Tabro Meat founder, Tage (Ted) Brorsen.

A veteran of southern Australia’s meat processing sector for more than over 50 years, Mr Brorsen began his career as an apprentice butcher in Copenhagen, Denmark before migrating to Australia in 1969.

He got his first chance in a small Victorian boning room in 1978 before the opportunity arose to purchase the Lance Creek processing facilities in the Gippsland from receivers in 1989 after the closure of the plant by the previous owners.

He then purchased the Moe plant in Victoria in 2004 and established a strong, dependable name for Tabro Meat throughout the industry. As first reported on Beef Central last year, Mr Brorsen sold the Tabro business to Chinese investor Foresun Group in 2014.

Mr Brorsen will be remembered as an honest, hardworking and committed stalwart of the meat industry with a dry sense of humour that caught many unawares. He passed away on Thursday after a battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

  • A funeral service will be held at Boyd Chapel, Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Springvale VIC, on Friday 8 May from 2.45pm.
