The Australian cattle industry is mourning the loss of former Charolais Society of Australia general manager Jack Henry, who passed away peacefully in Tamworth yesterday after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Prominent Victorian stud cattle industry identity Tom Lawson said Mr Henry was an inspiration to many and widely admired throughout the cattle industry.

“His network of associates and friends around the world and across all cattle breeds is a testament to him,” Mr Lawson said in a written tribute.

“While General Manager of the Charolais Society of Australia Jack helped lay the foundation for the future direction of Charolais inAustralia by encouraging open, transparent and targeted genetics programs to deliver profitable outcomes. 

“Jack initiated and managed the Beef Improvement Nucleus (BIN) Progeny Test project. The first of its kind for the breed, the BIN project was designed to improve the future for Charolais in Australia.

“Jack was not one to sit on the fence, but enjoyed extending himself, embracing new technologies, and pushing the boundaries. Jack was also a gifted photographer, cattle fitter, judge of cattle (and people)!

“He was a devoted family man who adored his wife and children and was a loyal friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”

Charolais Society general manager Terrence Farrell said Mr Henry passed away peacefully in hospital in Tamworth yesterday with family and friends by his side.

“Our thoughts are with Jack’s family,” he said.

“Jack worked as General Manager of the Charolais Society from 25/6/2009 to 3/12/2010.

“Jack was instrumental in establishing the BIN project with Meat and Livestock Australia during his time with the Society.”

More recently Mr Henry worked at the Morgan family owned Lillyvale Feedlot at Condamine in Southern Queensland.
