Yarding: 10,300 Change: +2000
NLRS Commentary:
With a strong market and the annual turnoff of weaners, Roma agents yarded 10,300 head this week. Most of the cattle were drawn from the usual supply area including central west Queensland. There were some exceptional quality runs of steers and heifers on offer and despite the lift in numbers, averages for yearlings under 400kg lifted on last week. Heavy feeder steers over 400kg varied in quality but held firm while while most categories of prime cattle improved by 5-10c/kg.
There was a full panel of buyers competing on light weight restocker steers with a top price of 600c for a charity steer, with the main run selling to 582.2c to average 560c/kg. Steers 280 to 330kg met solid support selling to a top of 586.2c with the average lifting by 5c to 559c and those 330 to 400kg to the restocker topped at 584.2c averaging 544c/kg. Heavy feeder steers over 400kg sold to 546.2c to hold firm at 526c/kg.
The addition of several orders from New South Wales boosted prices for light weight restocker heifers, with those 200 to 280kg selling to 526.2c/kg with averages lifting by 50c to 497c/kg. Heifers 280 to 330kg also saw increased competition selling to 522.2c to average 20c better at 499c and heifers 330 to 400kg returning to the paddock held firm selling to 522.2c to average 491c with a single charity heifer making to 546.2c/kg. Heavy heifers to feed over 400kg eased on last week by 10c selling to 520.2c to average 473c/kg mainly due to overall quality.
Processors were active on prime grown steers with those 500 to 600kg lifting by 7c to a top of 476.2c to average 447c and prime heavy heifers held firm at an average of 428c with a top of 448.2c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows met solid competition from interstate orders selling to 397.2c to average 5c better at 379c while cows over 520kg in a store condition were in demand improving by 11c to 388.2c to average 369c/kg. Heavy 3 score cows lifted by 7c to average 397c and prime 4 score cows held firm topping at 424.2c to average 416c/kg. Heavy bull also saw a 7c lift to 440c to average 410c/kg.
