Roma sale 19 April 2022: Numbers drop to 1717 with shorter week

A combination of the short working week and recent price reductions resulted in numbers declining to 1,717 head at the Roma store sale. Cattle were drawn from a wide area with consignments from far northern and western districts plus the local supply area. Buyer attendance was good with representatives covering all classes. Prices received very little change to experience only quality variations.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to the occasional 728c with a fair sample averaging 645c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged 568c and made to 648c, and restocker lines made to 666c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 570c to average 538c/kg. A small selection of light weight yearling heifers under 200kg made to 680c/kg. Yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers or background average 607c and made to 638c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 538c to 563c and sold to 600c, and restocker lines made to 628c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 450c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 428c/kg. Heavy grown heifers to export processors made to 410c/kg. Cows generally sold to a firm market. Medium weight lines to restockers averaged from 331c to 351c/kg. A fair sample of good heavy weight cows to export processors made to 376c to average 362c/kg. Heavy weight bulls to export processors made to 376c, with one bull finding a new home at 388c/kg. PTIC cows sold open auction made to $2,300/head. Cows and calves made to $3,000/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 604c/kg and averaged 520c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 728c/kg and averaged 612c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 712c/kg and averaged 599c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 712c/kg and averaged 575c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 570c/kg and averaging 531c/kg. Cows and calves hit $3,000/unit.

Allen Family Investments, Barcoola, Injune sold Charolais cross steers to 728c/kg reaching a top of $1,901 to average $1,798. The Charolais cross heifers sold to 628c/kg reaching a top of $1,878 to average $1,748.

C & S Tindall Family Trust, Darr River Downs, Longreach sold Angus steers to 712c/kg reaching a top of $2,525 to average $2,270.

HJC & SM George T/A Glen Valley Past Co, Glen Valley, Jundah sold Santa steers to 706c/kg reaching a top of $2,253 to average $2,045.

S & R White Family Trust, Gold Green, Roma sold Angus cross steers to 666c/kg reaching a top of $2,176 to average $2,163. The Angus cross heifers sold to 600c/kg reaching a top of $2,194 to average $1,780.

D & K Twist, Juandah Downs, Mungallala sold Santa cross steers to 660c/kg reaching a top of $2,186 to average $2,084.

AR & SM Russell, Gladysvale, Augathella sold Angus Cross Steers to 630c/kg reaching a top of $2,150 to average $1,966. The Angus cross heifers sold to 580c/kg reaching a top of $2,038 to average $1,791.

Bushy Park Pastoral PTY LTD, Bushy Park, Mt Isa sold Droughtmaster steers to 580c/kg reaching a top of $1,883 to average $1,818.

PM & HJ Devlin, Carmody Downs, Wandoan sold Angus cross steers to 570c/kg reaching a top of $2,632 to average $2,365.

China State Farms Australia PTY LTD, Noella Station, Charleville sold Santa steers to 568c/kg reaching a top of $2,799 to average $1,973. The Santa heifers sold to 600c/kg reaching a top of $1,857 averaging $1,681. The Santa cross cows sold 359c/kg reaching a top of $1,867 to average $1,630. The Santa cross bulls sold to 480c/kg reaching a top of $1,748 averaging $1,586.

Harry Green, Always Greener, Roma sold to Santa cross steers to 550c/kg reaching a top of $2,289 to average $2,289.

Dart Pastoral Co, Bannockburn Station, Torrens Creek sold Droughtmaster cross steers to 644c/kg reaching a top of $2,201 to average $2,201.

Heifers under 220kg topped at 680c/kg and averaged 600c/kg, while heifers in the 220- 280kg range topped at 638c/kg and averaged 542c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 628c/kg, averaging 541c/kg. Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 586c/kg, averaging 491c/kg.

Dart Pastoral Co, Thirlstone, Roma sold Charolais cross heifers to 561c/kg reaching a top of $1,915 to average $1,850.

Dalmally Grazing Co, Dalmally, Roma sold Charolais cross heifers to 450c/kg reaching a top of $2,440 to average $2,182. The Brahman cross cows sold to 372c/kg reaching a top of $2,300 to average $2,273.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 222c/kg and averaged 202c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 365c/kg and averaged 335c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 376c/kg, averaging 356c/kg.
