Yarding 3618 Change -2116

CATTLE numbers continued to ease at the Roma Store Sale, falling by 2,116 head to see a total yarding of 3,618 head.

Cattle drawn from Western Queensland were again present in numbers, accounting for just under two thirds of the total yarding. A good panel of regular buyers was present and operating. Steers dominated the yarding, however cow numbers increased this week. The overall quality of the yarding was mixed.

Prices improved from the previous week across most categories, and agents advise that the upwards trend could be attributed to the reduced supply of cattle available across the markets this week.

The largest sample of light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to a top of 435c to average 398c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to background or feed sold to 422.2c to average 395c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed reached 386.2c to average 353c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers sold to 380.2c to average 329c/kg. With the inclusion of quality local lines, light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers reached a top of 374.2c to average 342c/kg and medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to feed or background sold to 388.2c to average 379c/kg. Medium weight cows made to 260.2c to average 243c, while heavy weight cows made to 267.2c to average 257c/kg.

The best of the limited numbers of heavy weight bulls made to a top of 309.2c to average 296c/kg.

Cows and calves were also yarded and sold to a top of $1760/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 432c/kg and averaged 385c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 435c/kg and averaged 398c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 422c/kg and averaged 382c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 380c/kg and averaged 327c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 330c/kg and averaging 316c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,100/unit.

Cows in the 300-400kg range reached 240c/kg and averaged 198c/kg, while cows in the 400kg-500kg range reached 260c/kg and averaged 235c/kg. Cows over 500kg topped at 267c/kg, averaging 250c/kg.
