Roma sale 5 July 2022: Steers ease, heifer prices lift

Yarding 3286 Change -2590

Numbers fell to 3,286 in a rain affected yarding down by 2590 head. Cattle were mostly drawn from the local supply area in a mixed quality yarding. A good buying panel was present and operating including all regular processors. Steers continued to account for over half of the yarding. The market continued to ease for steers with light weight steers down by 10c to 51c, medium weight steers down by 3c to 46c and heavy feeders down by 5c/kg. Heifers appeared to improve. Heavy weight prime cows improved by 3c.

Light weight steers under 200kg made to 662.2c to average 645 c/kg while light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers also made to 662.2c to average 623c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 610.2c to average 669c/kg while medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 572.2c to average 536c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached a top of 522.2c to average 511c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers made to 560.2c to average 554c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 542.2c to average 520c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 518.2c to average 511c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed reached a top of 476.2c to average 474c/kg while heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 480.2c to average 480c/kg.

Heavy weight grown steers reached a top of 408.2c to average 407c/kg. The best of the grown heifers under 540kg made to 436.2c to average 361c/kg. A good run of PTIC red tag heifers sold to open auction to a top of $1,860/head while PTIC red tag cows made to $2,650/head. Heavy weight prime cows reached a top of 345.2c to average 338c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 310.2c to average 302c/kg. The largest pen of cows and calves sold to $2,220/unit.

The RFDS charity sale was postponed until next week, which will see the Maranoa Regional Council donate 50% of liveweight and open auction levies to the RFDS.

Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 610c/kg and averaged 565c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 582c/kg and averaged 524c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 522c/kg and averaging 463c/kg.

Justin & Ron Tarry, Morinda, Wyandra, sold Charolais steers to 662c/kg, reaching a top of $1,450 to average $1,258. The Charolais heifers sold to 560c/kg, reaching a top of $1,293 to average $1,017.

Malabar Holdings Pty Ltd sold Charolais steers to 662c/kg, reaching a top of $1,736 to average $1,562. The Charolais heifers sold to 544c/kg, reaching a top of $1,382 to average $1,191.

JMA Grazing, Merrigang, Charleville, sold Charolais steers to 650c/kg, reaching a top of $1,406 to average $ 1,405.

Sharmarel Farming Trust, Old Cashmere, St George, sold Angus steers to 646c/kg, reaching a top of $1,927 to average $1,707. The Angus heifers sold to 524c/kg, reaching a top of $2,129 to average $1,391.

PJ & WM Taylor T/A Layershire P/L, Warida, Mungallala, sold Angus steers to 646c/kg, reaching a top of $1,858 to average $1,685. The Charolais heifers sold to 514c/kg, reaching a top of $1,435 to average $1,394.

J Green, Cargill, sold Gertrudis steers to 628c/kg, reaching a top of $1,666 to average $1,620.

TA & RJ Wichlacz, Woodbine, Muckadilla, sold Droughtmaster steers to 594c/kg, reaching a top of $2,010 to average $1,852. The Droughtmaster heifers sold to 500c/kg, reaching a top of $1,482 to average $1,368.
