Roma sale 2 May 2023: Almost 10,000 yarded

Yarding 9756  Change (on two weeks ago, no sale on Anzac Day last week) +2043

The cattle were drawn from far western Queensland and the local supply area. The yarding was dominated by yearling steers and heifers with only a small sample of grown steers and heifers plus 1,200 cows.

The better quality yearling steers and heifers sold to prices a few cents either side of the sale two weeks ago however the plainer quality steers and heifers received only limited competition.

Grown steers were back by 8c/kg with grown heifers firm. Heavy cows eased by 2c to 7c/kg with heavy bulls improving in price. Light weight yearling steers to restockers made 454c to average 393c with those over 280kg averaging 390c and making to 406c/kg. Medium steers to background made 436c to average 380c with those to feed making to 398c/kg. Heavy steers to feed made 396c to average 357c/kg.

Light weight heifers to restockers made 350c to average 310c/kg. Heifers over 280kg to background made 338c to average 318c/kg. Yearling heifers over 330kg to feed made 326c with heavy heifers to feed at 328c to average 320c/kg.

Grown steers to processors made 308c to average 304c/kg. With those to feed at 358c to average 322c/kg.

Grown heifers to processors averaged 287c and sold to 303c/kg. Heavy score 3 and 4 cows sold from 260c to 268c and averaged 255c/kg.

Heavy bulls to processors sold to 314c and averaged 279c/kg.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 396c/kg and averaged 335c/kg, weaner steers in the 200-280kg range reached 454c/kg and averaged 390c/kg. Steers in the 280-330kg range reached 436c/kg and averaged 378c/kg, and steers in the 330-400kg range reached 408c/kg and averaged 367c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-500kg range topping at 398c/kg and averaging 347c/kg.
