Roma store sale 28 July 2020: Competition firm for quality lines

Yarding 5412 Change -703

5,412 head of cattle were yarded at the Roma Store Sale, down from the previous week by 703 head.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area, with numbers from Western and North West Queensland increased and overall quality varied in a yarding dominated by steers including good numbers of heavy bullocks.

The buying panel was larger with an increased restocker presence however not all processors were operating.

The market continued to be quality driven with prices and competition remaining firm for quality lines.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg improved y 21c, while the light weight yearling heifers under 200kg improved by 20c/kg. Medium weight steers to feed improved by 2c to 8c, and medium weight heifers to restockers improved by 8c to 18c/kg. However heavy weight yearling steers and heifers both eased. Heavy weight cows improved by 10c to 14c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 480.2c to average 472c/kg. Light weight yearling steers under 280kg to restockers made to 468.2c to average 446c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 434.2c to average 426c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 424.2c to average 402c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed made to a top of 419.2c to average 381c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers under 200kg to restockers reached a top of 466.2c to average 442c/kg.

A large sample of light weight yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 436.2c to average 413c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers sold to 426.2c to average 385c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to restockers made to 390.2c to average 383c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to restockers reached a top of 372.2c to average 367c/kg. Quality heavy weight grown steers made to a top of 346.2c to average 344c/kg.

The largest sample of grown heifers reached a top of 324.2c to average 307c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows to restockers sold to a top of 291.2c to average 289c/kg.

The heavy weight 3 score cows to processors also made to 291.2c to average 280c/kg.

The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 315.2c to average 313c/kg.

Cows and calves were yarded in increased numbers and sold to a top of $2180/unit.

Weaner steers under 220kg topped at 488c/kg and averaged 450c/kg, weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 462c/kg and averaged 412c/kg. Steers in the 280- 350kg range reached 436c/kg and averaged 396c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 422c/kg and averaged 382c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 419c/kg and averaging 363c/kg. Cows and calves hit $2,180/unit.

JG Gobbert TA/ Lowan Hills Pastoral Co, Lowan Hills, Mitchell sold Santa steers to 480c/kg, reaching a top of $1,422 to average $1,128. The Santa heifers sold to 450c/kg, reaching a top of $1,258 to average $981.

KJ & SL Boyd, Clyde Park, Porcupine sold Brahman cross steers to 468c/kg, reaching a top of $1,401 to average $1,021.
