Further lift in steer prices in online trading

Among larger lines this week, this run of 212 Angus weaned steers 6-8 months from Glen Innes NSW, sold in two lines, with the heavier end averaging 284kg making 573c/kg and the lighter run 246kg making 622c. The steers are normally sold later at heavier weights direct to Stanbroke for lotfeeding each year, but were sold early due to deteriorating conditions on the New England.

 

STEER prices across all weight categories continued to surge in online trading this week, with AuctionsPlus offerings up 5pc to 14,996 head.

Weather continues to shape sentiment across markets, pushing listings higher. Recent rain across parts of southern Australia has lifted confidence after growing concern around a dry autumn, while northern conditions remain mixed.

Clearance eased to 75pc, down 10 percentage points, as the larger offering gave buyers more choice. Steers again accounted for the largest share of the catalogue, clearing 89pc, while breeding lines proved harder to sell.

Buyers remained active, with 90% of lots receiving bids, although only 8% sold above reserve, reinforcing the more selective tone in the market as supply lifted.

Among the larger steer offerings, the catalogue of 2094 steers 200-280kg cleared 89pc, with prices edging 4c higher to average 569c.

A big offering of 2357 steers 330–400kg cleared 91pc, with prices gaining 19c to average 530c/kg, while 280–330kg steers lifted 7c to 545c/kg, while clearing 95pc ofg the 925 offered.

Steer highlights included 120 Angus steers 6-7 months averaging 208kg from Adelong, NSW, returning 713c/kg. They go to a buyer near Warrnambool, VIC.

A line of 50 Sangus/Angus steers 4-7 months averaging 150kg from Uralla, NSW, returned 669c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Blackall, QLD.

Heifer markets were mixed, with around 4400 head offered for an 86pc clearance.

A small offering of 427 heifers less than 200kg heifers jumped 59c to average 528c/kg, clearing all 427 offered. The 200–280kg heifers also improved 12c to 463c/kg, clearing 79pc of the 1839 offered.

Losing ground were heifers 280–330kg heifers which eased 29c to 428c/kg, while heavier heifers remained relatively steady, with 330–400kg lines lifting 10c to 457c/kg.

Feeder weight heifers +400kg eased 2c to average 439c, clearing 70pc of the 322 offered.

From Adelong, NSW, 37 Angus heifers 6-7 months averaging 191kg returned 654c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Carwoola, NSW.

Breeding females

Breeding female offerings totalled 4201 head, clearing only 44pc, reflecting a softer market for joined females.

PTIC heifers lifted $228 to average $2186, while SM heifers improved $155 to average $2030. In contrast, PTIC cows eased $132 to $2136/head, and SM cows fell $403 to $2580.

Joined units showed mixed results: SM cows and calves lifted $112 to average $2263, while SM heifers and calves slipped $1349 to $2476.
