Beef Central 19/03/2026

Yarding 8046 Change +5556

Numbers surged at the Dalby cattle sale this week with a yarding of 8046 head representing a significant increase of 5556 compared to the previous sale. Cow numbers lifted sharply to 1438 head, while 212 bulls were offered. Steer numbers were also strong with just under 2000 head penned. Export buyer attendance was not as good as the previous week however southern operators were still active in the market along with the regular feed and restocker buyers.

The larger numbers allowed buyers to be selective and average prices eased across a number of classes. However well bred light weight yearling steers to restockers experienced strong support. The better end of the yearling steers to feed sold to good demand however average prices eased slightly. The best of the light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock received good competition while the lesser quality lines were cheaper. Medium and heavy weight yearling heifers to feed were well supplied and sold to a market 8c to   20c/kg cheaper. Good heavy cows to export processors averaged 7c/kg less however medium weight plain condition lines were firm to dearer pushed on by restockers.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 624c and averaged from 524c to 529c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 570c to average from 500c to 534c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 520c with most sales at 489c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 452c and averaged from 392c to 404c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 392c to 402c with sales to 448c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 442c and averaged 398c/kg.

Bullocks made to 458c to average 440c/kg. Heavy grown heifers averaged 419c and made to 430c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows to restockers made 360c to average 345c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows to processors averaged 367c and the best of the cows made to 395c to average 379c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 392c/kg.
