Similar to other markets the supply of stock declined by 13pc and included in the line-up were some consignments from South Australia and a larger than normal yarding of over 330 cow and calf units. Buyer attendance across all classes was good with some additional exporters in the cow section. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 10c/kg dearer. Medium weight yearling steers to feed lifted in price by 3c/kg and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to very solid demand. Light weight yearling heifers lifted in price by 7c to 14c and medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 17c/kg better. Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 5c/kg dearer. A good supply of cows improved in price by 5c to 9c/kg.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 376.2c and heifer calves made to 335c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 326c with some to 360.2c/kg. The largest number of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 292c with sales to 306.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold around 278c with the occasional pen to 290c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed or backgrounders made to 320.2c to average 290c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 300.2c to average 277c/kg.

Medium weight steers made to 274.2c while heavy grown steers made to 272.2c to average 269c/kg. A handful of bullocks made to 260.2c to average 258c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows sold around 188c with some to 192.2c/kg. The best of the medium weights made to 217.2c to average 209c/kg. Good heavy cows averaged 217c with some to 223.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 259.2c/kg.

The yarding was down by 600 from last week, but the buyer attendance was good.  The market was dearer with cows up by 10c to 15c, steers 10c, feeder steers 10c the feeder heifers were dearer by 15c. There was a good line of 130 Santa and Santa Hereford cross Cows and calves, PTIC under 4mths topped at $1,920. – Joe Lehman, GDL, Dalby.
