Yarding 2490 Change -3992

Beneficial rainfall across much of the usual supply region resulted in a sharp decline in numbers at the Dalby sale, with the yarding easing by almost 4000 head to 2539. Cow numbers also fell, with 606 for the day, while bull supply was limited, with only 86 head offered. A fair panel of export buyers were in attendance however the southern operator of the previous week was absent. The regular feed and trade buyers plus restockers were active in the market.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 8c/kg better. Yearling steers to feed improved by 5c and up to 20c/kg in places. Yearling heifers to restockers and feed experienced very little change in price. Cows generally sold very close to the previous weeks level.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to a top of 588c to average 532c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market sold to a high of 568c to average from 527c to 540c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 496c and sold to 516c with some very heavy classes also making 516c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 414c to average 394c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 415c and sold to 446c/kg. Heavy weights to 444c to average 425c some to the trade at 453c/kg.

Grant Daniel Long Report

Rain across the district contributed to a sharp decline in yard numbers at Dalby this week, although a solid panel of buyers remained in attendance. Despite the reduced supply, the market held firm. Cow prices were comparable to last week’s levels, while the limited offering of steers and heifers also maintained similar rates. Feeder steers recorded a slight improvement on last week’s prices, whereas feeder heifers remained firm. A small selection of restocker steers and heifers was also yarded, with prices holding steady on the previous week.
