Dalby sale 27 April 2022: Firm to dearer market for larger yarding

Numbers increased by 1,201 head to 2,782 at Dalby. The larger yarding contained consignments of 653 head from far Western Queensland, 99 head from South Australia, and 184 head from New South Wales, with the remainder from the local supply area. A fair panel of export buyers was present and operating, however one usual export buyer was absent.

The regular feed and trade buyers plus restockers were in attendance and active. Light weight yearling steers and heifers returning to the paddock sold to strong demand for the quality penned. Yearling steers in the 280 to 400kg range experienced very strong support from both restockers and feeder operators to average 18c to 27c/kg better. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed improved in price by 3c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed also experienced some price improvements. Most classes of cows sold to a dearer market with gains of 7c to 10c/kg, and more in places.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 774c with a fair sample averaging 678c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 593c to 647c with sales to 688c, and restocker lines in the same weight range made to 722c to average 679c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to the occasional 596c to average 524c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background made to 686c to average 598c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed averaged from 533c to 562c with sales to 638c/kg

A small selection of heavy grown steers and bullocks to export processors made to 430c to average 426c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows returning to the paddock made to 344c to average 341c/kg. Medium weight 4 score cows to export processors averaged 368c and made to 380c/kg. Good heavy weight cows were well supplied and made to 382c to average 372c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 357c/kg. One bull sold open auction found a new home at $5,800/head. Cows and calves made to $4,000/unit.

Better yarding this week at Dalby with 2782 put through the sale. A good panel of buyers this week again. The market proved very strong with improvements in almost all categories. Weaner steers and light feeder steers improved by up to 30c/kg. Cows also trended dearer this week averaging around 10c/kg dearer.
