
Influenced partly by encouraging rain forecasts, all steer and heifer categories lifted in c/kg price on AuctionsPlus trading last week – mostly by double digits.
Offerings also lifted noticeably, jumping 33 percent to 14,298 head, while clearance eased to 75pc, down 6pc, indicating buyers were more selective as supply increased.
Steers accounted for the bulk of the offering at 8165 head, clearing 80pc.
The lighter steer categories were well supported, with 200–280kg steers averaging 568c/kg, up 18c/kg, while 280–330kg steers lifted 13c to average 538c.
Clearance in those lines held between 72–89pc, reflecting steady restocker and feeder interest. Heavy feeders +400kg lifted 4c to average 506c, following broader paddock market trends last week (see today’s feeder steer report).
Steer highlights included 20 Angus steers 7-8 months averaging 279kg from Dysart, TAS returning $1722 or 617c/kg and travelling to a buyer near Campbell Town, TAS.
Heifers were more mixed, with 280–330kg lines a standout, up 53c to average 462c and clearing 80pc, while heavier heifers +400kg edged 4c higher to average 506c.
A line of 82 Angus heifers 11-13 months averaging 365kg from Mount Gambier, SA, returned $1700/head or 466c/kg and will travel to a buyer near Anakie, VIC.
Breeding females
In the breeding categories, PTIC cows performed strongly, lifting $218 to average $2,278/head with an 87% clearance. PTIC cows and calves, although in short supply, also gained momentum, up $534 to average $3,251 and clearing 100%, highlighting solid confidence in proven units.
A line of 39 Speckle Park x Angus PTIC cows 2-6 years averaging 565kg from Gumeracha, SA, returned $2700/head and will travel to a buyer near Kadina, SA.
NSW again dominated supply, offering 9209 head or 64pc of the catalogue, clearing 74pc. Victoria recorded the strongest clearance of the major states at 83pc, while Queensland lifted offerings 51pc week-on-week and cleared 75pc.
