Yarding 3980 Change 2234

Similarly to some other markets, the supply of stock more than doubled the previous week’s numbers. Overall quality was good with a good representation of most classes. A fair panel of buyers covering all categories was present and operating. Restockers lifted average prices on steer calves and light weight yearling steers by 5c to 7c/kg. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed improved by 4c to 7c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 16c dearer and stronger supermarket support lifted medium weight yearling heifers to feed by close to 20c/kg. However, the wet weather money around the previous sale was absent and heavy grown steers and bullocks lost some of the previous week’s gains to average 18c to 20c/kg less. This trend flowed onto the cows with most 8c to 13c cheaper against improvements of 20c/kg the previous week.

Steer calves returned to the paddock at a top of 398.2c with most around 360c and heifer calves made up to 340c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 351c with a few pens up to 373.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made up to 318.2c to average 305c and heavy weights to feed made up to 294.2c to average 288c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold in the 290c range with some returning to the paddock at 319.2c/kg. A good supply of medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 285c and sold up to 301.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 285.2c to average 273c and bullocks mostly sold around 274c with some up to 281.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 194c while those returning to the paddock averaged 199c and made up to 212.2c/kg. A fair selection of good heavy cows made to 225.2c with most around 218c/kg. Heavy bulls made up to 276.2c/kg.

Grant Daniel Long report:

This week the yarding doubled in numbers. The overall quality of the yarding was good considering the seasonal conditions. The yarding consisted of well finished lines of cows, bullocks and heifers. Bullocks and heavy cows were 10c to 15c cheaper than previous weeks. The rest of the categories were 4c to 5c dearer. There was a good panel of buyers in the export trade and feedlotters sections. A new southern buyer in the feeder market helped the day as well as plenty of re-stockers, all operating on a dearer store market which was very solid.
