The independent review committee today released the draft report following completion of the first stage of the review into livestock exports by sea.
Stakeholders can make an individual submission or contact their representative body on the ASEL review stakeholder reference group to contribute to their broader submissions.
The consultation process will run through the department’s ‘Have your say’ platform until 18 July 2019, and submissions will be published on the department’s website to allow for a transparent consultation process.
In developing the draft report, the committee drew on submissions it received during consultation of an issues paper in April 2019 and an independent literature review.
The final report into the review of Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock by air is expected by September 2019.

We were sending cattle from Sydney to the Philippines in the mid 1990’s. They were specialized Jumbo’s operated by Instone Airlines .
At the time it was successful as they were flying Alpacas and Horses from the Northern Hemisphere into Sydney then flying empty to Manila to fly produce back to the Northern Hemisphere.
Consequently it was like a Back-load rate to Manila from Sydney , rather than flying empty.
The cattle were trucked from Western Queensland to Camden Sale-yards in Sydney, go through their protocols and vetted then transported to Sydney Airport and loaded into containerized pens and loaded onto the Jumbo.
It was a very humane and civilized way of transportation to their destination in a very short period of time.
I believe if the same type of operation could operate out of Toowoomba at the Wellcamp airport it would be a significant market to tap into.
However, I do believe the cost factor will make it nonviable .
