Numbers remained similar to the previous sale and the quality of cattle yarded improved. The usual feedlot buyers were operating and local restocker buyers were more selective again on light weight yearling steers. Medium weight yearling steers suitable for feed to the trade were 10c cheaper, while good quality heavy yearling steers attracted solid feedlot buyer competition. Feedlot buyers purchased the majority of the good quality light and medium weight heifers. Plain conditioned light yearling heifers were mainly purchased by southern processors. Cows and calves sold to $1230/unit and averaged $919. Light weight yearling steers hit 282c and averaged between 213c and 245c/kg. The D muscled sorts sold to 190c and averaged 186c, down 4c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 250c and averaged 225c, down 10c, while those returning to the paddock sold to 268c and averaged 237c, down 21c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached 258c and averaged 243c, up 6c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers sold to 216c and averaged 207c, down 6c, while those to processors hit 206c and averaged 176c, down 13c/kg. Those to restockers made to 206c and averaged 185c, down 17c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed sold to 210c and averaged 188c, up 5c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed reached 198c and averaged 186c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows sold to 178c and averaged 159c, while medium weight 4 score cows sold to 188c/kg.

Roma light steers topped at 298c/kg

A total of 6145 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 298c/kg and averaged 242c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 282c/kg and averaged 237c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 276c/kg and averaged 228c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 256c/kg and averaged 226c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 259c/kg and averaging 225c/kg.

Evesham Pastoral Co, Evesham, Longreach, sold Charolais-cross steers to 298c/kg for 151kg to return $452/head. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 218c for 192kg to return $420.

M & C Packer, Hartwood, Roma, sold Cross bred steers to 282c for 271kg to return $764.

Cameron Fraser Grazing, Culburnie, Barcaldine, sold Santa steers to 270c for 262kg to return $709. The Santa heifers sold to 210c for 236kg to return $497.

Ryan & Trish Ferguson, Little Bit, Roma, sold Charolais steers to 268c for 336kg to return $902. The Charolais-cross heifers sold 190c for 307kg to return $584.

Foyleview Pastoral Co, Foyleview, Mitchell, sold Simmental-cross steers to 258c for 457kg to return $1179.

Albury Pastoral Co, Albury Station, Mungallala, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 208c for 285kg to return $595.

V & D Brumpton, Gum Holes, Amby, sold Droughtmaster-cross heifers to 202c for 372kg to return $752.

Angus Stirton, Yarrawonga, Charleville, sold Angus-cross heifers to 198c for 457kg to return $907.

Cows over 500kg sold to 188c/kg and averaged 182c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 186c/kg and averaged 167c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 174c/kg and averaged 151c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1230/unit and averaged $919/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 240c/kg and average 180c/kg.
