Yarding 9309 Change 1104

Numbers yarded rose 12% with a mix of very plain and good quality store cattle penned. Cattle were drawn from the usual local supply area and across parts of western Queensland. Restocker buyers displayed keen interest in calves and light weight steers, which hit 378c/kg. Meanwhile, the plainer sort yarded were harder to sell at times with restocker buyers being more selective. Steer calves sold to 378c and averaged 337c, while heifer calves sold to 316c and averaged 289c/kg. Light weight yearling steers made to 354c and averaged between 336c and 316c/kg. Majority of medium weight yearling steers went to feed and topped at 334c and averaged 326c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers earned to 334c and averaged 327c, up 10c/kg.

Restocker, feedlot and processor buyers provided solid competition for light weight yearling heifers. They sold to 316c and averaged between 294c and 269c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed earned to 316c and averaged 300c/kg, while those returning to the paddock hit 320c and averaged 303c/kg. The medium weight 3 score cows reached 249c and averaged 232c, while those to restockers made to 232c and averaged 228c/kg. Heavy weight 4 score cows hit 272c and averaged 262c/kg. A pen of Braford cows with 1 to 2 month old calves sold to $1,180 and most averaged $898/unit.

Roma light steers hit 378c/kg

A total of 9309 head of cattle were consigned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 378c/kg and averaged 326c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 344c/kg and averaged 304c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 334c/kg and averaged 303c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 332c/kg and averaged 310c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 334c/kg and averaging 316c/kg.

G, R, & M Bauer, Greendale, Tambo, sold Charbray steers to 354c for 202kg to return $717.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 320c/kg and averaged 292c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 316c/kg and averaged 282c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 312c/kg and averaged 267c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 316c/kg and averaged 271c/kg.

S Kidman & Co, Innamincka Station, Leigh Creek, sold Santa heifers to 320c for 377kg to return $1208.

V & G Packer & Sons, Kurrajong, Roma, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 306c for 454kg to return $1390.

M & L Huntly, Kilburnie, Muckadilla, sold Charolais heifers to 300c for 332kg to return $998.

Cows over 500kg sold to 264c/kg and averaged 242c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 262c/kg and averaged 229c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 240c/kg and averaged 203c/kg.

A pen of Braford cows with 1 to 2-month-old calves sold to $1,180 and most averaged $898/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 336c/kg and average 260c/kg.
