The flow of good numbers of store cattle continued this week. A full panel of feedlot buyers were operating, but a plainer yarding of heavier steers resulted in heavy weight yearling steers falling in price. Good quality lines of medium weight steers were yarded and prices remained mostly firm. Good numbers of restockers were in attendance at the sale and solid competition held good quality light weight steer prices firm and lifted light weight yearling heifer prices by 3c/kg. Overall, some plainer conditioned steers from central and north parts of Queensland brought averages down by 6c to 9c for light weight yearling steers. Cows and calves sold to $1110/unit.

Light weight yearling steers made to 274c and averaged 251c, down 6c, while slightly heavier sorts made to 260c and averaged 242c, down 9c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 262c and averaged 238c, down 2c, while those to restocker buyers earned to 260c and averaged 243c, down 2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 248c and averaged 234c, down 14c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feedlot buyers reached 234c and averaged 215c, up 21c, and those returning to the paddock hit 230c and averaged 210c, up 3c/kg. Those to processors hit 212c and averaged 205c, up 2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed hit 220c and averaged 204c, while a pen to a restocker sold to 234c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed hit 218c and averaged 214c/kg. Medium weight 3 score cows reached 193c and averaged 182c/kg. Medium and heavy weight 4 score cows reached 209c and averaged between 195c and 202c/kg.

Roma light steers hit 274c/kg

A total of 7406 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale. Weaners under 220kg topped at 274c/kg and averaged 241c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 274c/kg and averaged 242c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 268c/kg and averaged 238c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 262c/kg and averaged 227c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 248c/kg and averaging 222c/kg.

Powermac, Leilavale, Cloncurry, sold Droughtmaster steers to 271c/kg for 221kg to return $600/head.

L & S Hanna, Terrarara, Mitchell, sold Santa steers to 262c for 394kg to return $1034. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 230c for 340kg to return $782.

Simmac Pastoral Co, Mt Maria, Morven, sold Angus-cross steers to 260c for 389kg to return $1013.

J Blackburn, Mt Bindango, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 260c for 313kg to return $814. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 210c for 273kg to return $574.

P Tite, Mt Abundance, Roma, sold Shorthorn-cross steers to 259c for 310kg to return $803. The Shorthorn heifers sold to 216c for 293kg to return $634.

A & R Scott, Mayfield South, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 259c for 289kg to return $749.

G & L Thornton, Westlyn, Morven, sold Charolais-cross steers to 258c for 348kg to return $898. The Charolais-cross heifers sold to 224c for 376kg to return $843.

S & R White, Mt Saltbush, Roma, sold Angus-cross steers to 258c for 264kg to return $682. The Angus-cross heifers sold to 214c for 249kg to return $533.

Weston Grazing, Maryron Station, Richmond, sold Charolais-cross steers to 257c for 351kg to return $904.

Eckford Holdings, Phenros Station, Julia Creek, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 255c for 260kg to return $664.

Smith Bros, Bristol, Barcaldine, sold Charolais steers to 255c for 248kg to return $632.

P & L Mathews, Vejovis, Jundah, sold Charbray steers to 252c for 383kg to return $966.

Ed Cattle Co, Kanandah, Longreach, sold Angus-cross steers to 252c for 319kg to return $804.

D Garland & D Wearing, Yingerbay, Roma, sold Santa-cross steers to 251c for 340kg to return $854. The Santa-cross heifers sold to 220c for 308kg to return $679.

R Clunes, Lorraine Station, Roma, sold Droughtmaster steers to 247c for 271kg to return $671. The Droughtmaster-cross heifers sold to 225c for 203kg to return $458.

The Cormack family, Corfield Park, Roma, sold Simbrah steers to 246c for 486kg to return $1197.

Wyndalma Grazing Partnership, Wyndella, Roma, sold Droughtmaster steers to 245c for 330kg to return $809.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 230c/kg and averaged 206c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 234c/kg and averaged 211c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 241c/kg and averaged 201c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 241c/kg and averaged 204c/kg.

Currawilla Pastoral Co, Currawilla, Windorah, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 234c for 336kg to return $789.

L & K Wall, Bogandilla, Dulacca, sold Angus-cross heifers to 220c for 321kg to return $708.

G & G Burey, Springhill, Amby, sold Charolais-cross heifers to 210c for 374kg to return $785.

Bangor Cattle Co, Bangor, Mungallala, sold Brahman-cross heifers to 222c for 438kg to return $973.

Lord & Penna Partnership, Aramac, sold PTIC Santa-cross heifers to 211c for 428kg to return $903.

Cows over 500kg sold to 209c/kg and averaged 196c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at reached 205c/kg and averaged 177c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 184c/kg and averaged 156c/kg.

Cows and calves sold to $1110/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 225c/kg and average 188c/kg.
