Rainfall recorded across Australia over the past week. Click on map to view in large format.

For the week ending 30 September 2014, rainfall was recorded in southwest Western Australia, southern and eastern South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and southern Queensland.

At the beginning of the week, a low pressure system and associated surface trough located over South Australia produced moderate rainfall totals over eastern South Australia and inland New South Wales. As the system tracked slowly eastwards widespread falls were also recorded in most of Victoria and New South Wales as well as parts of southern Queensland. Further rainfall was recorded across southeastern Queensland and eastern New South Wales as the system moved off the east coast.

In the middle of the week, a cold front crossed Tasmania following the passage of the surface trough, resulting in moderate totals being recorded along the west coast while a moist, onshore flow brought light showers to parts of coastal Queensland.

In the latter part of the week, a strong cold front and associated cloudband brought areas of rain to southwest Western Australia, whilst a series of cold fronts also produced further rainfall in Tasmania with some moderate falls recorded along the west coast.

Rainfall totals over 50 mm were reported in southwest Western Australia, western Tasmania and in a small area of northeastern Victoria. The highest weekly total was 93 mm at Huntly in Western Australia.

Rainfall totals between 15 mm and 50 mm were recorded along the west coast of Tasmania, through northern and eastern parts of Victoria, areas of southern New South Wales as well as across the northern districts of New South Wales extending across the border into southern Queensland, eastern districts of South Australia and in the southwest corner of Western Australia.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 15 mm were recorded in areas surrounding higher falls in western Tasmania, through some coastal areas and eastern parts of South Australia, parts of northern and southern New South Wales, southern Queensland and southwest Western Australia.

The Northern Territory, remaining parts of Western Australia and South Australia, and northern and inland Queensland away from coast recorded little or no rainfall for the week.
