At the beginning of the week, a broad trough of low pressure extended from the Top End in the Northern Territory through South Australia to a complex low pressure system south of the Great Australian Bight. A cloudband with embedded thunderstorms formed near the trough, generating heavy falls in the Kimberley and the western Top End. Moderate rainfall totals were also recorded in central parts of the Northern Territory, western Queensland, parts of central and eastern New South Wales, eastern Victoria and western Tasmania.

Thunderstorm activity continued in the vicinity of the low pressure surface trough with moderate falls recorded in isolated parts of the Kimberley, western Top End and central Australia, the Gulf Country, southeastern Queensland and northeastern New South Wales.

During the middle of the week, a cold front and surface trough in a cool west to southwesterly flow crossed the Great Australian Bight, bringing moderate falls across western Tasmania. Meanwhile, a surface trough located across northern Australia extended into the Pilbara and Gascoyne and triggered isolated thunderstorms around Broome and inland parts of the Pilbara district.

At the end of the week, heavy showers and thunderstorms developed across the Cape York Peninsula, parts of the Gulf Country and in the Top End as the broad area of low pressure remained near stationary. Light rainfall was recorded across parts of coastal South Australia and northeastern New South Wales as a series of surface troughs extended from the interior of Western Australia to the New South Wales coast.

Rainfall totals in excess of 100 mm were recorded in the Top End, parts of the Kimberley and across the north tropical Queensland coast. The highest weekly total was 197 mm at Noonamah Airstrip in the Northern Territory.

Rainfall totals between 50 mm and 100 mm were recorded in the northern and western Kimberley, much of the Top End excluding Arnhem Land, areas of the Gulf Country and the west of the Cape York Peninsula, and in small areas of the southern interior of Queensland and western Tasmania.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 50 mm were recorded in remaining parts of the Kimberley, central and northern parts of the Northern Territory, large parts of the Gulf Country and the Cape York Peninsula, the north tropical and central Queensland coasts, the southern interior and southeastern districts of Queensland. Similar totals were recorded in central and northeastern New South Wales, parts of northeastern Victoria, and in areas of West and South Gippsland, and the western half of Tasmania.

Remaining parts of Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales; western, central and far eastern Victoria, and eastern Tasmania recorded little or no rainfall this week.
