Rainfall for the week ending October 14 was recorded in Queensland, eastern New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, with isolated falls in the west of the Northern Territory.

At the start of the week a fast moving cold front crossed New South Wales a westerly flow moved over Tasmania bringing moderate rainfall to the west coast of Tasmania and light rainfall to parts of coastal Victoria and the southeast coast of New South Wales.

A deepening surface trough drifted slowly eastwards across Queensland’s central and southern interior mid-week, with showers and thunderstorms forming near and ahead of the trough. Some moderate rainfall totals were recorded in southern Queensland.

Later during the week, a strong cold front tracked through the Great Australian Bight and crossed central Victoria, with developing low pressure centres ahead of the front as it continued through New South Wales, moving offshore by the end of the week. As the system moved eastwards, moderate falls were recorded in western Tasmania, and southern and central areas of New South Wales.

A deep surface trough was present over the southern interior of Queensland at the end of the week, with thunderstorms and showers in a broad band from the northwest to the southeastern interior producing some moderate daily rainfall totals. Isolated thunderstorms also formed in the northwest of the Northern Territory along a surface trough located over northern Australia.

Rainfall totals over 100 mm were reported in parts of the West Coast district of Tasmania. The highest weekly total was 107 mm at Mount Read in Tasmania.

Rainfall totals between 50 mm and 100 mm were recorded across Queensland’s southern interior, isolated spots in the northwest of the Northern Territory, the southeast coast of New South Wales, the coast of East Gippsland in Victoria and an area of the west coast of Tasmania.

Rainfall totals between 15 mm and 50 mm were recorded in parts of southern and inland Queensland, large areas of the east coast of New South Wales, eastern Victoria and most of western Tasmania.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 15 mm were recorded surrounding higher falls in a small area of the Northern Territory, through central and southern Queensland mainly away from the coast, the eastern half of New South Wales, parts of eastern and southern Victoria and a broad area of western Tasmania.

Western Australia, South Australia, most of the Northern Territory, inland and northern Queensland, inland New South Wales and eastern Tasmania recorded little or no rainfall for the week.

Highest weekly totals in each State
