SEVERE thunderstorms and showers across much of eastern Australia continued throughout the week due to a slow-moving surface and upper troughs combined with a humid airmass.

The heaviest rainfall was recorded across South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria with a number of locations setting new records for both their wettest November day and their wettest day for any month.

A low pressure trough over south-eastern Queensland generated wind, thunderstorms and rain, which continued to the weekend.

Weekly rainfall totals of 15 to 50 mm were recorded across most of eastern Australia and across parts of the northern tropics, with pockets of 50 to 100 mm.

High weekly totals of 150 to 400 mm were recorded in parts of eastern Victoria and south-east New South Wales.

The highest weekly total of 434.8 mm was recorded at Cathcart (Mount Darragh), New South Wales and the highest daily total was 226.8 mm at Jervis Bay (Point Perpendicular), New South Wales in the 24 hours to 9 am on 29 November.
