Weekly rainfall update + rainfall outlook 27 Feb 2024

DURING the week much of Queensland experienced widespread rainfall, as a slow moving upper level low pressure system produced heavy rainfall to northern Queensland and a series of troughs brought rainfall to northern, central and southern parts of the state.

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln brought rainfall to Western Australia’s Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne and Central West districts as it moved across the state.

Weekly rainfall totals greater than 200 mm were recorded in Queensland’s North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district and a small pocket of north-eastern Western Australia.

Weekly rainfall totals between 100 to 200 mm were recorded in small areas of western Northern Territory and adjacent parts of Western Australia and its north-west coast, northern Queensland and small pockets in the Top End of the Northern Territory.

Weekly rainfall totals between 50 to 100 mm were recorded for much of northern Queensland and isolated pockets along the east coast, northern parts of the Northern Territory, much of Western Australia’s Kimberley district and isolated pockets in western and southern areas, and along the central and north coast of New South Wales.

The highest weekly total was 542.1 mm at Tully Sugar Mill, Queensland including the highest daily rainfall total of 488.0 mm in the 24 hours to 9am on 24 February.
