Bureau of Meteorology 26/10/2022

INLAND low pressure troughs (one which developed into a low pressure system) along with a cold front brought extensive rainfall to the eastern two-thirds of Australia.

October daily rainfall records were exceeded across sites around the country on all days of the week as the heaviest rainfall shifted from central parts of the country to eastern and then southern parts.

Weekly rainfall totals greater than 150 mm were recorded over parts of New South Wales and Queensland, with a few sites in Queensland recording totals exceeding 350 mm.

Much of the eastern two-thirds of Australia along with south-west parts of Western Australia received weekly totals of at least 25 mm.

The highest weekly total (at a Bureau gauge) of 367.2 mm was recorded at Tin Can Bay (Defence), Queensland. This site also recorded the highest daily total during the week – of 288.2 mm in the 24 hours to 9am on 22 October.

Moderate to major flood warnings were issued for catchments across NSW, Victoria, southern Queensland and Tasmania.
