A SERIES of low pressure systems and surface troughs brought thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall to large parts of southern, central and eastern Australia during the week.

Weekly rainfall totals above 50 mm, with isolated totals over 100 mm, were recorded in parts of south-eastern New South Wales, and in most of Tasmania and eastern Victoria.

Weekly rainfall totals above 50 mm were also recorded in coastal parts of southern Western Australia, east-central Queensland, and in pockets of central South Australia and the eastern and southern Northern Territory.

Rainfall totals between 10 mm and 50 mm were recorded in central and western Victoria, parts of eastern Tasmania, most of New South Wales and South Australia, and in large areas in southern and central Northern Territory, southern and far north-western Western Australia, and south-eastern and eastern Queensland.

At a Bureau gauge, the highest weekly total of 273.2 mm was recorded at Mount Buller, Victoria; the highest daily total was 162.4 mm at Cathcart (Mount Darragh), New South Wales, in the 24 hours to 9am on 25 October.

Moderate to major flood warnings were issued for many catchments across New South Wales, Victoria, southern Queensland and Tasmania.
