Bureau of Meteorology, 12/03/2024

ONSHORE flow brought rainfall totals above 100 mm along fringes of the Queensland coast, and more than 200 mm in an area of the Northern Tropical Coast with minor flooding of the Tully River.

Monsoon storm activity across the Top End and northern Western Australia brought showers throughout the week, and large areas had totals between 100 mm to 300 mm.

Over the 9–11 March, a front colliding with an upper trough drawing tropical moisture south, delivered rainfall totals exceeding 100 mm to parts of the Southern Interior, Goldfields and Eucla districts in Western Australia.

Eyre, on the Nullarbor coast, recorded 141.2 mm in the 24 hours to 9 am 10 March, an annual record for the site, and 196.8 mm for the week, around 62% of its average annual rainfall.

The highest daily rainfall during the week (at a Bureau gauge) was 178 mm at Parry Creek Farm, Western Australia, in the 24 hours to 9 am on 9 March and the highest weekly total was 636.0 mm at Tully Sugar Mill, Queensland.
