Yarra Corp and JT Johnson & Sons buy Adelaide Plains Feedlot

James Nason, 11/05/2018

Singapore’s Yarra Corporation  and South Australia’s JT Johnson & Sons have joined forces to purchase the Adelaide Plains Feedlot at Dublin.

The partnership, named Yarralinka Livestock Co, aims to provide consistent, high quality supply of beef cattle for the Chinese live export market as well as other export markets, Yarra Corporation said in a statement provided to Beef Central today.

Under the arrangement, both parties will provide capital to develop the Yarralinka yards into a flagship for the live xport industry.

It will be accredited for all key export markets and provide customised and research-backed feeding programs for cattle before and during its voyage.

It is understood that both teams will actively participate in the operations and management of the feedlot, with Yarra Corp handling cattle movements and Johnson’s focusing on feed management.

Yarra Corp chief executive officer Bradley Leahey said Johnsons was a respected supplier of efficient and productive feed. “In today’s livestock export scene, not only does the end customer care about the final quality of the product, there is also a strong focus on animal welfare and traceability to the source. We trust that Yarralinka will provide this assurance to its customers.”

Robbie Johnson, Director of Johnson’s, believes that the Joint venture is an exciting step forward for the company and for the industry as a whole.

“The industry is going through a tough time right now but we believe by partnering with a forward thinking company such as Yarra Corp, we can work towards ensuring the health and well-being of the cattle, which translates to longevity and customer satisfaction.”

“Our feed pellets have been extensively trialled in our R&D pens and we are very confident we can achieve the required results that will contribute to the success of Yarralinka and any livestock exporter. We are very excited and proud to be involved.”

Headquartered in Singapore, Yarra Corporation specialises in supplying fresh Australian produce to the Asian markets. The company aims to be vertically integrated, with a team of experts in the agricultural, food processing, and hospitality sector.
