Balonne River country sells after 136 years

Surat’s Kent and Bree Ziesemer, Gambier Park, have paid $9.3 million (bare) to expand with Balonne River breeding, finishing and fodder cropping country.

The well-located 2917ha Broadmarsh (pictured above) is 26km north-east of Surat and 80km south-east of Roma in south-west Queensland.

The property has been held by the Dehnert family since 1888.

Nutrien Harcourts agent Darryl Langton reported 17 inspections and 11 registered bidders, which he described as a wonderful result in terms of auction participants.

“Broadmarsh sold under the hammer at auction. The bidding activity was certainly enthusiastic following an uplift in the cattle market and in the light of good seasonal conditions.”

Destocked for six months, Broadmarsh features mostly buffel country with dark, alluvial river flats and frontages growing natural grasses and herbages with a capacity to run 750 steers.

Boasting frontages to the Condamine and Balonne Rivers, the property is supported by Wallumbilla Creek waterholes and a flowing bore.

Broadmarsh has significant potential for further development potential.

CQ family expands with coastal breeder block

A Central Queensland family is expanding their breeding herd with a large-scale breeder block in a coastal rainfall area of Central Queensland.

The 12,990ha Montrose (8260ha freehold and 4730ha leasehold) is located 40km north of Marlborough and 150km north of Rockhampton.

It is close to two export abattoirs at Rockhampton, one in Mackay, feedlots and saleyards near Gracemere, Emerald, Nebo and Sarina.

Ray White Rural agent Richard Brosnan was unable to disclose the buyer or the price paid but said Montrose achieved fair market value for both the purchaser and seller.

“The season has been very kind, and the property was very well grassed and presenting like a picture after good rain,” he said.

Featuring developed open flats running into undulating hills growing improved pastures and areas of legumes and native pastures, Montrose has historically run between 2500 to 3000AE.

In recent years, the property has been conservatively running around 1400 head of cattle which were included in the walk-in walk-out sale.

Water is provided by five dams, eight bores (six are equipped) and natural creeks with permanent holes.

Infrastructure includes a four-bedroom home, a two-bedroom cottage, numerous sheds and cattle yards.

The sale was handled by agents from Ray White Rural, Elders and Brian Dawson Auctions.

Roma family secures Maranoa development opportunity

A Roma family has secured a cattle breeding, backgrounding and finishing operation in south-west Queensland’s Maranoa, listed as a development opportunity with upside.

Offered to the market for the first time in more than 20 years by the retiring vendors, the 5793ha South Coogoon is located near Ballaroo, 60km west of Surat and 70km south of Roma.

Leichardt Group agent Scott Kostecki handled the sale of South Coogoon but was unable to disclose the buyer or the price paid.

The deep red and grey soils are established to prolific stands of buffel, with areas of box, mulga, brigalow and belah, capable of running up to 1400 head of cattle.

Situated in a 570mm average rainfall area, good quality water from an artesian bore is piped to tanks and troughs, supported by seven dams and seasonal Basketyard Creek hollows.

Infrastructure includes two homes, two steel cattle yards, numerous sheds and a recently completed, fully exclusion fenced boundary.

Girilambone stays in local hands

The Welsh family has paid $3.5 million for quality grazing and farming country in western New South Wales.

Terry and Mary Ervin’s 2069ha Iona Station is located near Girilambone and 55km north of Nyngan.

Nutrien Russell Property and Livestock agent David Russell said the sale price was slightly above expectations following five inspections and four registered bidders on auction day.

“Iona is favoured with quality mixed soil type cultivation country and grassed up grazing that is well-watered and fenced,” he said.

The purchase price included a 20 percent share of the 807ha sown to wheat as part of a share farm seasonal agreement.

There are 1650ha of cultivation country with balance comprising slightly undulating grazing country capable of supporting up to 900 Dorper ewes.

Iona receives an average of 475mm of rain a year and is watered by nine dams supported by a 300,000 litre rainwater storage tank.

Infrastructure includes a five-bedroom home, numerous sheds, a 20-tonne silo, a three-stand shearing shed, sheep yards and steel cattle yards.
