Automatic calf drafter taking shape + VIDEO

Beef Central, 01/05/2019

With fast-growing producer interest in the use of paddock-based autodrafters, the research team at CQUniversity is working to enhance the technology to better meet the needs of commercial operations.

Cattle producers are being invited to complete an online survey to understand how auto-drafting technology might be used on farm and where they see the most benefit.

Lead researcher Dr Kym Patison said the goal of the survey was to identify ways to assist technology developers to improve in-paddock automatic drafting systems in order to support better calf management practices.

“The anonymous survey also asks general details about the respondent’s property, with a focus on understanding how they currently manage calves and weaning,” Dr Patison said.

“The majority of questions are multiple choice and should not take more than 10 minutes to complete.”
