New National Vendor Declarations now available

Beef Central, 02/07/2020

BEEF, sheepmeat and goat producers and other value chain stakeholders are reminded that new versions of the Livestock Production Assurance National Vendor Declarations for all species are now available, identified by version number 0720.

The LPA NVD communicates the food safety and treatment status of every animal every time it moves along the value chain – between properties, to saleyards, or to processors.

New versions of the Livestock Production Assurance National Vendor Declaration (LPA NVD) for all species are identified by version number 0720.

Previous versions of LPA NVDs for all species including cattle, EU cattle, sheep and lambs, goats, and bobby calves, will continue to be accepted until 31 December 2020.

From 1 January 2021, only the updated versions of LPA NVDs (0720) will be accepted for all species.

The development of updated versions of LPA NVDs for all species followed a review of all NVD versions by SafeMeat in 2019, which recommended a number of changes be made.

Integrity Systems Company chief executive Dr Jane Weatherley said to assist producers and supply chain holders in ensuring LPA NVDs are complete and correct, ‘How to Complete’ examples and instructions for the new versions are available on the ISC website.

“LPA NVDs are a legal document that are key to Australian red meat’s traceability and market access and it is crucial they are filled out accurately,” Dr Weatherley said.

“LPA accredited producers, feedlots and value chain stakeholders don’t have to wait for new hard-copy NVD books to arrive in order to access the new versions. All updated versions are instantly available online through the electronic NVD (eNVD) system.

“The eNVD is easy to navigate, removes duplication, and can be completed on a mobile device or desktop computer.

“Adopting the eNVD is simpler and more accurate for the whole supply chain. All consignments are in the one place and instantly available online, enabling stakeholders to log in and view eNVDs, including receivers of a consignment or animal.”

To access the eNVD or order new NVD books, log-in to the LPA service centre using LPA login details.

As part of the MLA Accelerated Adoption Initiative announced in November 2019, there is no cost for NVD books until 30 June 2021.

Beef, sheep and goat producers are reminded that LPA is a voluntary document. There is no legislative requirement for their use. MLA have no legislative power.
Contrary to the MLA statement that LPA is the key to market access ,other major beef producing nations export meat into the same markets as Australia without it. In fact beef is imported into Australia without LPA.
