Webinars to provide helpful financial and pasture recovery advice for flood victims

Beef Central, 22/02/2019

FutureBeef has scheduled two webinars next week providing helpful advice on financial assistance and pasture recovery for flood-affected producers in North Queensland.

The first of the webinars next Monday (25 February), from 7.30pm will provide an update on financial assistance available for north west Queensland graziers.

The Queensland Rural & Industry Development Authority’s Craig Turner will discuss the loans and grants available to primary producers to recover from the monsoonal trough flooding. He will also answer any specific questions producers may have.

Primary production enterprises that suffered direct damage as a result of the North and Far North Queensland Monsoon Trough can access grants from QRIDA to pay for costs of clean-up and reinstatement activities. Special Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants up to a maximum of $75,000 are available to assist eligible primary producers.

Pasture response

On Wednesday next week (27 February) a second webinar will be held discussing Northwest Queensland pasture response after flooding, also starting at 7.30pm.

David Phelps

DAF pasture agronomist based at Longreach, David Phelps will discuss how the pasture is responding after the flooding and what is likely for the longer-term. He will also answer any specific questions from participants.

Mr Phelps joined Queensland’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry as a Scientist in 1990 and has conducted grazing, fire and climate change RD&E, mainly in the Mitchell grasslands and the channel country. He has contributed to developing and delivering industry education packages including the EDGEnetwork Grazing Land Management workshops, the Stocktake feed budgeting and monitoring workshop and new Smart phone app.
