Yarding 4650, Change 1225

It was a very mixed quality yarding of cattle. The number of feedlot buyers in attendance lifted and, as a result, medium and heavy feeder weight steers gained 2c to 9c/kg. There was an even split between good quality light weight yearling steers and plainer weaners. The majority of light weight yearling heifers returned to the paddock, while medium feeder weight yearling heifers jumped 6c/kg. Cows and calves sold to $500/unit.

Light weight yearling steers sold to 178c and averaged 170c, up 5c, while D muscled lines averaged around 149c to be up 1c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed topped at 184c and averaged 171c, up 9c, while those returning to the paddock hit 178c and averaged 169c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached 185c and averaged 171c, up 2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers made to 154c and averaged 135c, up 3c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed reached 151c and averaged 145c, up 6c, while a small sample purchased by restocker buyers hit 152c, up 18c/kg.

Most store conditioned 2 score cows sold between 68c and 92c, up 7c, while heavy weight 4 score cows sold around 140c, down 3c/kg.

A total of 4650 head of cattle were penned at Roma’s Store Sale on Tuesday.

Weaners under 220kg topped at 178c/kg and averaged 159c/kg, while weaner steers in the 220-280kg range reached 176c/kg and averaged 158c/kg. Steers in the 280-350kg range reached 178c/kg and averaged 160c/kg, and steers in the 350-400kg range reached 184c/kg and averaged 173c/kg. Feeder steers in the 400-550kg range topping at 185c/kg and averaging 172c/kg.

Gwenbrook Farms, Gwenbrook, Roma, sold Charolais-cross steers to 185c/kg for 455kg to return $841/head.

John York, Taunton, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 184c for 376kg to return $693. The Simmental-cross heifers sold to 143c for 310kg to make $445.

Mt Rourke Pastoral Co, Mt Rourke, Winton, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 180c for 381kg to return $687.

Bill Roberts Partnership, Ridgelands, Injune, sold Charolais steers to 178c for 389kg to return $693.

W Proud & Brumpton, Scattering Plains, Roma, sold Simmental-cross steers to 178c for 347kg to return $619. The Simbrah heifers sold to 152c for 340kg to make $518.

R & M Henzell, Birindi, Roma, sold Shorthorn-cross steers to 176c for 405kg to return $714.

S Kidman & Co, Innaminka Station, Innaminka, sold Santa-cross steers to 176c for 221kg to return $389. The Santa heifers made to 150c for 317kg to return $476.

Seawright Investments, Reben Downs, Injune, sold Santa-cross steers to 175c for 315kg to return $552.

W Hughes, Yamboyna, Wallumbilla, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 166c for 251kg to return $418.

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 152c/kg and averaged 131c/kg. Heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 154c/kg and averaged 143c/kg. Heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 146c/kg and averaged 131c/kg, while heifers under 220kg topped at 146c/kg and averaged 130c/kg.

R & E Lister, Trevallen, Roma, sold Angus-cross heifers to 154c for 290kg to return $447.

Ridgelands Grazing Co, Ridgelands, Injune, sold Charolais heifers to 152c for 350kg to return $533.

Dart Past Co, Springbok, Injune, sold Charbray heifers to 152c for 329kg to return $500.

B & D Cooke, Turana, Meandarra, sold Simmental-cross heifers to 146c for 275kg to return $402.

B & E Mulckey, Ula Ula, St George, sold Brahman heifers to 138c for 245kg to return $338. 

Cows over 500kg sold to 140c/kg and averaged 131c/kg, while cows 400-500kg topped at 136c/kg and averaged 94c/kg. Cows in the 300-400kg sold to 115c/kg and averaged 69c/kg.

Cargara Cattle Co, Cargara, Augathella, sold Braford cows to 140c for 592kg to return $829.

Cows and calves sold to $500/unit.

Bulls up to 400kg reached 150c/kg and average 122c/kg.
