More than 100 commercial and stud cattle producers gathered at the headquarters of the Raff family's Raff Angus stud near Drillham in western Queensland recently to learn how the new world of genomics is being used to fine tune the stud's selection program.

In an Australian-first partnership with Pfizer Animal Genetics, the Raff family has tested its entire breeding herd of registered Angus females together with all stud sires with Pfizer's new HD50K DNA tool for Angus cattle.

The field day included technical explanations by Pfizer geneticists and practical demonstrations by David and Andrew Raff showing how the cutting edge technology is helping to accelerate the rate of genetic gain within the Raff Angus herd.
