Qld Police investigating stock fence damage

Beef Central 18/02/2025

Detectives from the Mareeba Stock Squad are investigating the wilful damage of stock fencing in Dimbulah, earlier this month.

Investigations indicate between February 4 and February 11, an unknown number of people attended a property on Metzger Road and cut approximately two kilometres of barbed wire fencing at various sections.

As a result, stock wandered onto the road and into neighbouring properties.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or who may have seen any persons or vehicles on Metzger Road, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Mareeba Rural and Stock Crime Squad officer in charge Detective Sergeant Ben Cross said the estimated cost to the producers for the damaged fence and lost cattle was between $8000 and $10,000.

“This has not only caused significant frustration for the property owners, but the actions of these people could cause serious harm to the community by allowing stock to wander onto the road,” Detective Sergeant Cross said.

“We’re urging anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour or knows anything about this crime, to contact police.”
