The National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) has praised an announcement by the Federal Government on the implementation of a comprehensive liquid fuel security plan for Australia.

“As an industry that relies on diesel for the majority of its energy use, agriculture requires a secure supply of liquid fuel to ensure its operations can proceed uninterrupted,” NFF CEO Tony Mahar said.

“This announcement will ensure that farmers can continue to grow the food and fibre we rely on without the fear of having supply chain disruptions due to shortages of liquid fuels.”

The NFF is particularly pleased that the Government has taken on board the agricultural sector’s concerns with respect to liquid fuel availability in regional Australia.

“Our members raised the need for strategic reserves in the bush to avoid liquid fuel related disruptions to supply chains,” Mr Mahar said.

“The Government’s prioritisation of reserve storage in regional Australia and its commitment to ensuring the viability of onshore refining capacity is most welcome.”
