Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious emergency animal disease and an outbreak could cause major production losses and seriously affect Australia’s international livestock trade.

In this presentation, join Dan Burton (Senior Inspector, Biosecurity Qld – DAF Blackall) when he discusses his recent Nepal Real Time FMD experience. During the one week visit he was able to work with real life cases of FMD in the field and has developed a comprehensive presentation that highlights the importance of producers to be observant when it comes to possible disease issue/s in their herd and/or flock, or any other cloven-hoofed species.

Topics covered during this presentation include:

• FMD – the disease and its symptoms in a number of cloven hoofed species;
• The challenges in controlling and eradicating the disease – Nepal’s experiences;
• Preventing the disease from entering your property;
• The importance of reporting FMD early in the event of a possible exotic disease and more.
