Beef Central, 16/10/2015

Meat & Livestock Australia members have three weeks until the Annual General Meeting proxy voting deadline to vote on new Board Directors and an additional cattle producer to the Board Selection Committee.

mla-logo-paddedAll MLA members should have now received their AGM packs in the mail, including the notice of meeting and proxy forms which are due via post or online by 2pm (Qld time) on Sunday 8 November.

The MLA AGM will be held on November 10 at the Mercure Hotel, Brisbane.

For the first time, MLA grassfed cattle producer members have the opportunity to directly-elect an additional cattle producer representative to the board selection committee for a three-year term.

At last year’s AGM, members voted to make amendments to MLA’s constitution to increase the number of cattle producer representatives on the Committee from one to two – giving grassfed producers greater equity of representation and influence over the MLA board.

The role of the selection committee is to report to MLA members on the suitability of candidates for election or re-election to the office of director of MLA.

From the 2015 AGM onwards, the selection committee will be made up of nine members; two cattle producer representatives, one sheep producer representative and one lotfeeder representative as well as three appointed by peak councils and two non-voting MLA directors.

Grassfed producers must vote for one of five representatives standing for election to the selection committee, The candidates are:

  • Tim Burvill, South Australia
  • Mark Driscoll, Central Queensland
  • Noel Cheshire, north east Victoria
  • Liz Allen, central west Queensland
  • Mick Hewitt, central northern Queensland

All nominees put forward to the AGM can be voted for by cattle producer members only.

MLA members who are not attending the AGM can still vote by proxy or attorney – by completing and returning their proxy form by post or online by 2pm (Qld time) on Sunday 8 November.
