The Australian Government has confirmed an election commitment to provide $2.5 million funding to Beef Australia 2015.

Beef Australia 2015 is one of the nation’s premier cattle industry events showcasing the Australian industry to the world and benefitting producers, processors and consumers through educating, raising awareness and showcasing technology.

Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce, said the funding contribution to the Beef Australia Expo showed the government’s commitment to building strong rural and regional communities.

“This is the largest and most significant cattle industry event in the country,” Minister Joyce said.

“It’s a chance to show off our highly skilled and dedicated producers along with the quality of Australian cattle and beef.”

In 2012 Beef Australia attracted more than 85,000 people from all over Australia, as well as delegates from more than 25 countries.

“The beef industry is facing a range of challenges which is why it’s vitally important that we promote our beef and beef producers to the nation and the world,” Minister Joyce said.

“I am always working to improve market access and to improve farm gate returns to ensure that this $7.4 billion industry continues to grow and that all sectors in the supply chain remain viable well into the future.”

Federal Member for Capricornia, Michelle Landry, and the Federal Member for Flynn, Ken O’Dowd, both welcomed the funding announcement.

Ms Landry said the event was a welcome spotlight on the major beef producing region.

“Beef Australia 2015 is expected to be bigger and better than ever and will provide a very welcome boost to our region’s economy, generating millions in additional turnover for our small businesses, accommodation providers and other industries for months either side of the event,” Ms Landry said.

Mr O’Dowd said the event cemented the region as the beef capital of the nation.

“It is beneficial for the whole beef industry, from paddock to plate, and everywhere in between,” Mr O’Dowd said.

“This investment shows we’re 100 per cent behind agriculture and I am pleased with the government’s delivery on this vital election commitment.”

Beef Australia 2015 will be held in Rockhampton, Queensland between 4 and 9 May 2015.
