A NEW documentary called the World Without Cows is hoping to put some balance into the debate about to role of cattle in diets and environments across the globe.

A trailer has recently been released and the film is in the final stages of production, with screenings, panel discussions and film festival submissions in the works. Ultimately, the production team is hoping to raise awareness and secure distribution deals on networks and streaming services.

Animal nutrition company Alltech spearhead after noticing narrow views on cows and climate being represented in the media and in general public discourse.

A company spokesperson said the company was inspired after watching a milk alternative super bowl ad, which was watched by millions, cost millions and celebrated the idea of a world without cows.

“The tipping point was a 2021 Super Bowl commercial that literally sang the praises of a world without cows,” the spokesperson said.

“That’s when we decided to find out what life would be like if we took all the cows away? Would the world be better off?”

To answer that question, the company sent journalists Michelle Michael and Brandon Whitworth across the world to locations like the United States, Kenya, India and Brazil – who visited and interviewed people on all sides of the debate.

“Because our filmmakers work in agriculture, they had unique access to farmers, ranchers, food producers, scientists and all kinds of other experts around the world,” the spokesperson said.

“Through conversations with them, the resulting documentary explores the cultural and economic significance of cows, their role in feeding the world and their impact on climate.”
