Charters Towers sale 30 Aug 2023: Yearlings 10-20c cheaper

Interim Report. The supply of stock at Dalby reduced by 2,381 head to 4,763.

Cattle were drawn from a wide area with 918 from far Western Queensland and 278 from New South Wales with 3,567 from the local districts.

Included in the lineup this week was the annual Qld Country Life pen of charity steers for the RFDS. There was a good panel of buyers in attendance and included southern operators.

Prices for yearling steers and heifers at the time of this report have sold to a cheaper trend of 10c to 20c and up 30c/kg.

However the better end of the cows sold very close to the levels of the previous week. Medium weight yearling steers to feed made to 314c to average 296c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 285c and made to 294c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 250c to average 227c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 264c to average 234c with a handful to restockers at 280c/kg.

The pen of certified grainfed bullocks with the proceeds going to the RFDS made to 361c/kg to return $2,540/head. Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 179c and made to 197c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 207c and the best of the heavy weights made to 228c to average 224c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 238c/kg.
