Charters Towers sale 2 Aug 2023: Prime values fall

Numbers increased by 22 head for a yarding of 1891 cattle, with quality mostly good throughout.

Despite a reduced supply of prime cattle, more than 200 good quality prime bullocks were penned.

Two regular processors were not in attendance and values fell for most prime categories.

Regular feeders and restockers and one live exporter were very selective for better quality lines, with secondary types attracting very subdued demand.

Cattle were drawn from Mt Isa to Georgetown, south to the local area.

Good quality young lightweight steers to restockers increased 13c, yearling heifers to feed were mostly firm, grown steers eased 8c, bullocks were mostly firm, heavy cows fell 18c and bulls averaged 16c lower.

Good quality young steers above 200kg returning to the paddock averaged 320c to 368c selling to 374c, and similar heifers returning to the paddock averaged 208c/kg.

Yearling steers above 330kg to feed sold to 266c to average 256c/kg. Yearling heifers above 280kg to feed topped at 238c to average 234c/kg. A good line of heifers above 330kg to feed averaged 233c/kg.

A reduced supply of grown steers above 400kg to feed sold to 250c to average 245c and a small sample of trade types reached 260c to average 250c/kg. Grown heifers to the trade made to 242c to average 232c and suitable heifers to feed averaged 223c/kg.

An increased supply of heavy full mouthed bullocks to export slaughter topped at 282c, most sales from 256c to 266c and suitable steers to live export averaged 266c/kg. A reduced supply of cows met subdued demand, losing most of last weeks gains. Medium weight 2 score cows sold to 196c to average 183c, 3 scores reached 220c to average 207c to 214c/kg.

A good sample of prime heavyweight 4 score cows topped at 216c to average 212c/kg. Heavy bulls to live export sold to 2702c to average 267c and bulls to processors averaged 233c/kg.
