Following recent forums in Mount Isa and Casino, Cattle Council of Australia producer forums will move to Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania in coming weeks.
CCA president Andrew Ogilvie said the producer forums provide providing a mechanism for Cattle Council to have two-way dialogue directly with Australian beef cattle producers.
“Cattle Council has two distinct roles. One is to represent the interests and views of Australian beef cattle producers and the other is to provide strategic policy advice and to consult with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) on the investment of grassfed cattle levies,” he said.
“The forums will provide an opportunity to update producers on MLA levy investments in marketing, market access and research and development, as well as new industry initiatives such as the Pasturefed Cattle Assurance System. The producer forums will include an open panel discussion at the end of the day.
Cattle Council CEO Jed Matz will also provide an update on the CCA restructure process.
The upcoming producer forums include Bendigo on 13 August, Naracoorte on 15 August and Launceston on 24 September.
The free one day events are open to all beef cattle producers.
Forum topics will include:
• An overview of the beef cattle industry structure
• An update on research and development in southern Australia
• An update on market access
• The ‘new’ Pasturefed Cattle Assurance System
• CCA restructure
• An open panel Q&A session.
The Mount Isa forum attracted over 150 beef producers from Northern Queensland and the Northern Territory and was addressed by recently appointed Federal agriculture minister Joel Fitzgibbon and the opposition’s shadow minister, John Cobb, as well as Queensland agriculture minister, John McVeigh.
