Beef Australia 2012 Chairman Geoff Murphy has been named the Red Meat Achiever of the Year at the AgForce Queensland Red Meat Awards Dinner in Brisbane.
Mr Murphy was nominated for his long-term service to Beef Australia, the national beef industry exposition held once every three years in Rockhampton, Central Queensland.
“It is an honour to receive this award from the industry but it is really an award for everyone who has contributed to the Beef Australia expositions – staff, directors, volunteers, beef producers and visitors – since its inception in 1988,” Mr Murphy said.
“This award is also recognition that the Beef Australia expositions have grown in stature and importance to the industry right across the country.”
Mr Murphy has served on the board of Beef Australia for 11 years and in the role of chairman since 2003.
Beef Australia 2012 will mark a dozen years of voluntary service to the expositions, which are a celebration of all facets of the Australian beef industry and facilitate new trade and export opportunities by exposing the local supply chain to the global industry leaders.
Mr Murphy has devoted time to Beef Australia while also working as managing director of the JM Kelly Group of companies, the largest and most diversified privately owned construction group in Australia, with construction, manufacturing and building supply businesses throughout Queensland. He also has two commercial beef cattle properties in Central Queensland: “Rivervale”, South Yaamba, and “Durando”, St Lawrence, which run a total of 2500 head.
